About Me

Aydin Nurhan - Retired Ambassador
Who Am I and What Have I Done?
I was born in 1949 in Adapazarı. My education began at Talas American Middle School and Tarsus American College, and I later graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law. After completing my legal education, I worked as a lawyer before quickly transitioning into diplomacy.
Throughout my career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I served in various parts of the world. I was the Ambassador to Ghana, also accredited to Togo and Benin, and held Consul General positions in Azerbaijan, Austria, and Australia. Additionally, I served as the Director General for Science and Technology at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and as the Deputy Chairman of the Strategic Research Center at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I also played an active role in the establishment of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). Earlier in my career, I held diplomatic posts in Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States.
In 2013, upon the nomination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I retired and was appointed as the Permanent Representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to Afghanistan, a position I held until 2017.
Beyond my diplomatic career, I have been active in academia and media. I have worked as a newspaper columnist, a radio program producer and presenter, and a university lecturer. My primary field of interest has been globalization, a topic on which I have delivered numerous conferences and published various articles. My writings and speeches have been featured in Turkish, Ghanaian, and U.S. media.
I have compiled my thoughts into two books: “Bir Büyükelçinin Düşünce Dünyası” (The Thought World of an Ambassador) and “Reflections of a Turkish Ambassador.” Additionally, my article “Strategic Research Culture in Developing Countries” was published as an important reference in a book on strategic thinking and research institutions.
In recognition of my work, I have been honored with the Benin Republic Order of Merit, an Honorary Doctorate from Nakhchivan Private University, and the TASAM Strategic Vision Award.
I am married and the father of two children. With my experience in diplomacy, academia, and media, I continue to explore, interpret, and share my insights on the world.
